Jackson's Waffle Shop

On our recent trip to Jackson this last weekend we knew we needed to find a place to eat before our appointment. We always travel with our dog Circe which means we need to find a place to eat that allows dogs. Dining with our dog Circe has not always been an easy task but we have mostly been fortunate to find restaurants that allows or baby to join us.

So, I found a place in Jackson called "The Waffle Shop". We chose this place for a brunch idea and for their waffles and outside dining option. When we arrived you could tell this place was a true time capsule. Think a fifties diner and you would be close. Claudia checked us in and she said the waitress said we had to walk around to the back of the restaurant. So we walked the dirt path and then the sidewalk and through to the rickety white fence gate to the patio. There was only one patio table with stacked chairs in an area that was clearly created for an emergency exit.

That's fine. It was a nice day and were game. Couldn't enter the restaurant through the door at first until a waitress came and propped the door open with a cinder block. The wait staff was cordial and friendly and we got to ordering. Given this was a Waffle House Claudia was already fixing to get her favorite Chicken and Waffles. I waivered as I was planning to get a waffle too but always seem to find my way to my favorite breakfast food choice in an omelet.

I asked the waitress how the Chili Verde was and she said it was very good. Now I don't normally buy in to what the wait staff says generally but I decided to give it a shot. I was surprised to say that it was delicious. I had already prepared myself for being disappointed, however I was deliciously surprised at how good the Chili Verde was. It was spicy as you would want but didn't blow my palate either. Along with the fluffy eggs this was a winner!

As for Claudia's Chicken and Waffles. Well the portion was huge. Three pieces of chicken...Breast, Thigh and Drumstick. Here waffle was light and airy with a proper crunch. The one drawback was the chicken was too hot to eat for what seemed a bit too long.

So if you find yourself in Jackson and need a breakfast place with your pooch give the Waffle Shop a try.
